The Image Zoo:
A Video Installation
In collaboration with Joyce Ho
Advised by Pouya Ahmadi
What if images were alive? What kind of ecosystem would they need to survive? Inspired by W.J.T Mitchell’s inquiry “What do pictures really want?” Joyce and I set out to reimagine and visualize the living desires, thoughts, and behaviors of immaterial images and thereby, lead viewers to discuss the impact these images have on our perception of bodies, status, and media.
From the shy Fashion Magazines to the hyperactive Trump Tweets, we thoughtfully characterized each species and brought them to life using Blender.
To accompany the videos, we designed pamphlets for each animal which provided visitors information about the animal’s eating habits, habitat, behavioral patterns, and more. The two sided design provided a mirrored view into what these animals looked like in the wild, versus their true identites.
